Lake Hortonia is quieter and less crowded than larger lakes. Getaway Hill sits up on a hillside 150 feet from the water, with a road passing below. (Lake-view, not lake-front.) The deeded, private lake access is a short walk (1/3 mile)away. Clear, clean water. Swimming area is good for children as it is shallow at the edge. Canoe. Boats for rent nearby. Fishing: bass and pike.
The conveniences of home: washer and dryer, dishwasher, satellite TV, WiFi. There is a 36'x24' wraparound deck with plenty of space for sunning, outdoor eating, and restful lake view. Hammock, chaise, table with cushioned chairs, charcoal grill. Homemade firepit for evening cookouts, 'smores, and catching fireflies.

First floor: living room has cathedral ceiling, satellite TV, leather furniture, books, game table, video library of over 120 titles for all ages. Wide-plank pine floors. Open dining area has large pine table that seats 10. The well-equipped kitchen has a breakfast bar, large counter space, microwave, dishwasher, and pantry stocked with herbs and spices for your cooking convenience. Two first floor bedrooms: the "Cowboy Room" has twin beds, and the "Garden Room" has a double bed. Full bath with tub and shower. Good for elders who want first floor bedroom.
Upstairs: the whole second floor is your private master suite. Bedroom has queen bed, large closet, ceiling fan. Bathroom with shower. Private loft with desk suitable for working on your computer (WiFi provided), daybed under the cathedral ceiling for naps. This level has its own private deck with lounge chairs for stargazing or having a drink away from the rest of your group.
Daylight basement: opens to the outdoors. Play space with toys, pingpong table, queen bed and bunkbeds.
Nearby: Middlebury and Castleton Colleges, country stores, small villages, farms to visit, restaurants, outdoor concerts, theatres, antique shops, art galleries, hiking, fishing, state parks, golf, and horseback riding. Getaway Hill is a convenient base for sightseeing, being central to Middlebury, Brandon, Castleton & Rutland. One hour east is Killington Center with year-round attractions. One hour north is Burlington and one hour south is Manchester.
$1350 per week (plus 9% VT tax) for up to six persons. Over 6: $50 add'l per person per week. Max. 10 persons not including infants under one year.
Weekly rentals only May through August.
Fall weekends: min. 2 nights. Holiday and foliage weekends: min. 3 nights. $225/night plus tax.
$250 refundable cleaning/security deposit
Dog: one only, $100 fee. Some restrictions.
