On Lake Willoughby's less populated west side, The Cove House is nestled amid hemlock, cedar, balsam, and spruce on Lunge Cove, a favorite of kingfishers, merganser ducks, loons and fishing enthusiasts. The waterfront is out the front door accessible down a sloping pathway with handrail. The natural shoreline is readily accessible for your small boats, canoes, kayaks, sailfish, etc. Exceptional swimming in the cove and at the wide sandy North Beach which is only a short canoe-ride away.
Three-bedroom, cedar-shake, two-story cottage sleeps 6, and has two bathrooms with showers. The unique architectural design features a cathedral ceiling and banks of windows for abundant natural light. A three-quarter wraparound porch with large deck and small upstairs balcony, both facing the water, connect indoors with outdoors. Downstairs bedroom and both bathrooms have electric wall heaters; spacious living/dining/kitchen area is heated by Vermont Castings woodstove. Firewood provided. Basic amenities: phone for local calls, small washer/dryer unit, simply equipped kitchen with electric range and oven, coffee maker, toaster oven. Water supply is pumped from lake; bring bottled water for drinking if preferred.
Out the backdoor, the quiet Old Cottage Road offers a stroll through woods, with glimpses of Willoughby gap through birches, and then out into hay fields on the main gravel road, or for longer walks on 5-mile loop around Hinton Hill or 5-mile trek to Wheeler Mountain trailhead. Also great departure point for biking backcountry roads.
The Cove House is a place to appreciate the simplicity of living amidst natural beauty in a harmoniously designed space.
Available: The Cove House is available May 27th through July 30th. Closed July 30th - August 17th for family. Then open Aug 18th through the first week of October.
In-season (July & August): $1500/week. $225/night.
Off-season (Memorial Day Weekend - June, and September): $1300/week. $190/night.
