The reviews do not lie. This house is a wonderful place to stay and the grounds are beautiful. We cooked many meals in the accommodating kitchen, the beds were comfortable and the showers had great water pressure. We skied at Killington, which was a short 45-50 minute drive away.

Peter checked in to make sure everything was in order. We had such a great time we want to go back during warm weather to enjoy the property.

We had a wonderful experience and you will too.

"Beautiful Home for Families and Pets!"

Our weekend was better than we could have asked for or imagined. The home was beautiful and comfortable with all the necessary amenities and more. There was more than enough room for our two family and two labs. The dogs had so much fun running around on the enormous property and laying by the fire.

We skied at Killington which was about a 35-40 minute drive.

This property would undoubtably be amazing in the summer with the lake just outside the front door.

We will definitely keep this home in mind on future visits to the area.

"Excellent home for all seasons!"

The house and property were gorgeous. I can only imagine using the lake front in the summer. It's in a wonderful location that's secluded and private yet close enough to see the sites. We stayed for a week and after hitting touristy attractions everyday it was so nice to come back to a calm relaxing environment. We never even explored all the land. The master suite was great. And even though there were only two of us the house very comfortably could have fit at least 6 other people all who would have had their own private space. We hope to visit again and with our families!

Our family of five (parents and three grown children - and our son's dog) thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful, well maintained home on Lake Bomoseen. The property owner was great to work with and responsive to all questions. We had lots of room to spread out inside, and acres to explore outside. The waterfront dock provided opportunities for successful fishing and lots of fun. We especially enjoyed the fire pit and the screened porch at the back of the house. Well appointed, nicely decorated, two outdoor grills - we found everything we needed and more! Beds were very comfy and baths were first rate. Highly recommend!

"Beautiful and well run property in VT countryside"

Not only was the property beautiful and in an idyllic setting, but the owner was absolutely fantastic to work with. I have rented many different properties over the years, and this was the best experience I have ever had. The house was even roomier than pictured, the setting was absolutely beautiful (which does not come across enough in the photos even though the photos on the site are great) and the service was very attentive (i.e. the owner sent the agreement when he said he would, communicated everything we could have possibly wanted to know and more, was courteous, returned the deposit very quickly, etc.). We rented in the winter and skied at nearby Pico - it was nice to rest by the fire after a long day of skiing. The large downstairs room can be closed off and has both a pull out sofa and a double futon in it - great for kids to share. We hope to come back during the summer months to enjoy the outdoor portion of the property more. Thanks again to the owner for making the process and our stay so pleasant!

"Fantastic vacation stay over February sch.vacation"

We had a fantastic time during the February 2014 vacation week. The house is just perfect! Very clean, ample of room, very comfortable beds in all three bedrooms and there are extra beds in the living room. The fire place was my favorite area. I love to read and write and I spent my quiet early mornings in this area before others woke up. We had a group of 11 (5 adults and 6 kids) and we had a blast. We would definitely rent this place again!

Wonderful for New Year's Eve

We (four couples) spent three nights here leading up to New Year's Day. Beautiful house and great, quiet location. We spent two days skiing at Killington and enjoyed relaxing in front of the fireplace in the evenings. Very clean and spacious, with plenty of room for all eight of us.
The property was incredibly peaceful with the best stargazing I've had on the East Coast. I only wish we had left more time to explore the nearby lake. We may have to come back in the summer when we can also make use of the patios! Everything exceeded expectations. Highly recommended.

And some more excepts of recent reviews in 2013/2014:

***'The house is superb and every little detail has been thought through'***
***'Beautiful property, even better than the pictures! Peaceful and relaxing. Lots of space. Master bed/bath and fire pit are especielly amazing!'***
***'Beautiful, Relaxing, Perfect! One of the best homes we've stayed in for our family vacation.'***
***We were pleasantly surprised by a beautiful spacious house that had everything we needed (and more). The owners have done so much work to insure that someone's stay is easy and effortless. Modern bathrooms, soft linens, comfortable rooms...***
***Thanks for making it such a smooth rental...We rent 4-5 times a year and this was the easily the most hassle-free..'***
***'This home has the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in at a rental, even better than our bed at home! The master shower is a wonder...The house and entire property were immaculate at checkin, and smelled fresh and clean.'***
***'The house is beautifully renovated and has every amenity you could imagine. (The pictures don’t adequately capture the upscale quality of the home, nor the beauty of the surroundings, and the back screened in porch overlooking a large pasture, custom shower and mammoth fire-pit are unparalleled!) The owners have designed the home with renters in mind and have spared no expense in doing so (high end grill, fully stocked kitchen with high end appliances and cookware, games, books, and videos for all ages, large high efficiency washer and dryer.) The house was in spotless condition..'***
***'Can't wait to return, Johnson's On Bomoseen is now a very special place for our family!'***
***'Pampered people we are now, your house is perfect!'***

DESCRIPTION:

One of Vermont's historical gems and an important part of Lake Bomoseen's history since the mid 1800's, Johnson's On Bomoseen was originally an important and popular destination hotel on Lake Bomoseen, having first opened it's doors in the late 1870's when Colonel Endearing Johnson and his brother came home from the US Civil War and decided to convert the 900 acre farm into a destination hotel. This gem of a property is once again available to guests as a vacation rental property.

Johnson's On Bomoseen was operated by the Johnson family continuously from the late 1860's until the 1950's. In 1933 the original Johnson's on Bomoseen Hotel burned down, and on it's original foundation the Johnson family built the current home (and built a new hotel elsewhere on the property which eventually also burned down in the 1950's). While the original farm was over 900 acres, over the years the Johnson family sold all but the remaining 22.6 acres, leaving the most desirable prime pastural and waterfront lands and a beautiful country home set back from the lake on the original hotel site and foundation.

Today, Johnson's On Bomoseen enjoys 300' of waterfront on Lake Bomoseen with a 30' aluminum dock (in season) and 715' of waterfront on Love's Marsh Waterfowl Reserve, it's own perfectly manicured croquet court (in season), walking trails perfect for hiking, snow shoeing and cross country skiing, and beautiful pastures and a secluded mature grotto.

About the 2200 sq. ft 3+ bedroom home: Built in 1933 upon the foundation of the original Johnson's On Bomoseen Hotel, the current home is set back from the lake and features 3 spacious bedrooms including a beautifully appointed Master Suite, 2 1/2 fully updated baths, multiple living areas including a gas fireplace, and a fully equipped and updated kitchen. There are also two furnished screened in porches and a formal dining area with seating for 10.

Happy Travels,
