Charming antique colonial/farmhouse with 5 bedrooms, 3 full baths, two living rooms, large dining room with game area. Also has a great covered outdoor space (see pics, it's hard to describe), a two-acre field, frontage on the middle branch Williams River, large hay barn, covered two-car parking (and plenty of other parking besides). This house was built between 1800 and 1805, it is NOT modernized (we like it this way!), but is very cozy and well-equipped. The two living rooms each have very well-built fireplaces; wood is included.
We supply all sheets, towels, and everything you'll need in the kitchen.
There are lots of outdoor activities nearby. For winter, Magic Mountain and Okemo are under 14 miles away. Bromley, Stratton, Killington, Mt Snow, and Pico are all between 20 and 40 miles away. It is less than 1/4 mile to the VAST snowmobile/mountain biking trails. Grafton Pond Park is under 9 miles away and has snow tubing and great cross-country trails.
For the warmer seasons, there is hiking, biking, swimming, boating all nearby; we'll give you maps and tips for finding the best places. There are two gorgeous lakes in state parks within a half hour of the house.
We're within walking distance of the delightful town of Chester, where there are cute shops, several terrific tavern-style restaurants with great food, and a beautiful bakery. In Ludlow, the next town north (where Okemo is), there are tons more restaurants, including one of our very favorite restaurants anywhere, Downtown Grocery. We're close to Stone House Antiques (a very large, multi-dealer shop -- very good prices) and several other antique shops. Taterhill Golf Club is 10 miles west, Fox Run is 14 miles north, and horseback-riding and skeet- and trap-shooting are also available in Chester.
The house is on a well-traveled road so road conditions are good even in winter. We're a little over 2-1/2 hours from Boston, and a little under 4 hours from NY, ten miles off of route 91.
We have flat screen TV, cable, wireless, and a great old-fashioned game table. (We have a collection of games that are pre-plastic. :) There are four rooms with air conditioning and lots of fans. The oil furnace is super-quick to heat the place up, and there are two fireplaces, one in each living room.
Ask us about our secret pine nave. I'm not telling you any more here, it's a secret!
